UserGuiding alternatives: which digital adoption platform should you choose in 2026?
UserGuiding aims at a fast start: a no-code editor, published prices and guides created by your own teams, on web applications. Nine platforms share this market, with very different project models and data policies. Here is what each one documents.
Nine UserGuiding alternatives, and who they suit
Each entry reflects what the vendor in question publishes itself.
Our pickComplex business processes, simulation before go-live with input validation, data hosted in France, in-house project managers.

French vendor, ISO 27001 certified, hosting in the European Union. Detailed desktop coverage — SAP GUI, Citrix, .NET, Java — and in-browser simulations.

International reference, an SAP subsidiary since September 2024. Deployed through a worldwide network of integrators; the European data centre does not carry every capability of the platform.

Complete international suite. Mirror replicates applications so users can practise before go-live; Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop and SAP GUI are documented.

German vendor, ISO 27001 certified by TÜV SÜD, Europe by default. Usage mapping and scoring across the whole estate, web applications only.

German vendor with a support line based in Germany, Windows and web applications, cloud or on-premise. Geared towards knowledge management and documentation at scale.

Product analytics and guidance, for product teams. Web and mobile; on non-web environments, neither guidance nor resource centre.

Partner-led model. Training in production rather than in a separate environment, a choice the vendor stands behind. Data residency not disclosed.

Born from the Iridize acquisition, sold standalone or through partners. Web applications, simulations available, data residency not disclosed.
Why teams look for a UserGuiding alternative
Four reasons come up again and again, all verifiable in the vendor’s own documentation.
Nothing to practise on, and nothing to export
No training environment separate from production appears in the published scope. The documentation also states that guide content cannot be exported in any format, SCORM included: it stays inside the platform.
The browser, and nothing else
UserGuiding documents web applications, in the browser. Native mobile is not supported, and SAP GUI, Citrix, Java and .NET do not appear in the published scope. The documentation also notes that elements inside an iframe cannot be targeted.
The European server depends on your tier
Accounts are hosted on AWS in the United States by default; the European server, in Frankfurt, is documented as reserved for the Growth and Enterprise tiers. On compliance, SOC 2 Type 2 has been achieved; for ISO 27001, the security policy describes a programme aligned with the standard, not a certification.
Autonomy, within the limits of your tier
The model is self-service: your teams create and maintain the guides. Content quotas are published and capped per tier — fifteen guides on Starter, forty on Growth — which means deciding what gets supported and what is left aside.
Before the switchover, where do your users practise?
On building guides quickly inside a web application, UserGuiding is effective. The difference plays out before go-live, and on the application scope covered.
- No simulation environment separate from production is documented: learning happens on real data.
- Guide content cannot be exported in any format, SCORM included: nothing reaches your LMS.
- The user performs the steps himself in a replica of the application, before go-live.
- The input validation checks what is entered, field by field.
- The result is reported to the LMS via SCORM: success is measured, not assumed.

Training, guidance and adoption measurement with Knowmore
Go-live is not the end of the adoption project. K-STUDIO, K-NOW and K-VALUE cover the four stages of the loop.
Train
Prepare users through experiential training and simulation, before the switch.
Guide
Support the user inside their application, at the moment they carry out the task.
Measure
Identify friction and connect real usage to the business outcomes expected.

Enter the project cost centre, not your department’s: it is what triggers the right approval path.
Improve — Feed the findings back into training and guidance, for lasting impact.
Four questions to ask any adoption platform, Knowmore included
Four questions to ask any adoption platform, in the order they come up during a selection process.
On which environment do your users practise before go-live?
Every platform supports the user inside the application. The question to ask is whether a simulation environment exists, separate from production, where mistakes carry no consequence.
Are you measuring usage, or business process performance?
Most platforms measure clicks, flows and completion rates. Few connect those behaviours to business indicators: processing time, input error rate, ticket volume.
What happens to your guidance when the application interface changes?
This is the hidden cost line of every adoption project. Ask which technical criteria elements are targeted on, and what actually happens after an ERP version upgrade.
Who actually supports you, and for how long?
Vendor teams or partner network? Based where? For how long after go-live? Have the profiles named in the commercial proposal, not just in the pitch.

UserGuiding alternatives: your questions
What is the best UserGuiding alternative?
There is no best alternative in absolute terms: the ranking depends on what you are looking to replace. If the subject is product analytics, Pendo. If it is a complete international suite, Whatfix. If it is speed of creation with desktop coverage, Lemon Learning.
Why look for a UserGuiding alternative?
Three points recur in the public documentation: no training environment separate from production is documented, and guide content cannot be exported in any format; the scope covers web applications in the browser, with no native mobile and no thick-client applications; and the European server is reserved for the Growth and Enterprise tiers.
Does UserGuiding work on non-web applications?
No. The documentation states that only web applications and non-native mobile applications are supported. SAP GUI, Citrix, Java and .NET do not appear. For an estate that includes thick-client applications, three platforms in this comparison document desktop coverage: Lemon Learning, Whatfix and tts.
Where does UserGuiding host data?
Data is hosted on AWS, in the United States by default. A European server exists in Frankfurt; the documentation describes it as reserved for the Growth and Enterprise tiers, and switching to it means losing analytics and survey data. SOC 2 Type 2 has been achieved; for ISO 27001, the vendor describes a programme aligned with the standard, with no published certification.
Which UserGuiding alternatives make it possible to train users before go-live?
Four platforms document a training environment separate from production: Knowmore with K-STUDIO, Whatfix with Mirror, Lemon Learning with its interactive simulations, and Oracle Guided Learning with its Interactive Tips. UserGuiding, Userlane and Pendo do not offer one; Apty trains in production, as a stated choice.
How does UserGuiding’s pricing compare with its alternatives?
UserGuiding is one of only two vendors in this comparison to publish prices: Starter from 249 dollars per month and Growth from 499, billed annually, with 2,000 monthly active users included and content quotas capped per tier. Pendo publishes a free tier up to 500 monthly active users. The other seven vendors are on quotation.
